A horseback ride in Carrapateira takes one hour, a surf lesson for beginners an hour and a half, an e-bike ride around Portimão and Alvor two to two and a half, a food tour or a walk in the Monchique hills three. Jeep safaris run four hours as a half day and up to eight as a full day.
For the countryside the real choice is jeep or bus. The jeeps leave the tarmac for Silves and the hills; one half-day tour climbs to Fóia, the highest point of the Algarve, and includes a firewater tasting. The guided bus tour to Silves and Monchique takes seven hours and suits anyone who would rather watch the landscape than be shaken through it.
Active guests have the surf lessons at Praia da Rocha and the small-group e-bike ride. Families planning a full day can look at the Slide & Splash and Krazy World tickets, which are entry only, so you organise the rest yourself. For an evening there is a fado night with a tapas dinner in Portimão.
Prices are hard to compare across such different outings: a Krazy World ticket starts from €16, an e-bike ride from €39 and a horseback ride from €70. Check what each price covers – tastings, lunch or only the entrance – before you decide.
Good to know: Book the boat trip for the calmest forecast day and put a land experience on the windy one. That way a rough Atlantic costs you nothing but a change of plan.

The half-day tours last four hours, start from about €45 and include tastings of local jams and liquors. The full-day tours run seven to eight hours from about €50, and a six-hour version with lunch starts at €79. Choose the half day for a shorter outing; if lunch matters, the six-hour version includes it.
Yes. The small-group lesson at Praia da Rocha is aimed at beginners, lasts one and a half hours and starts from €50. If you would rather have the instructor to yourself, a private two-hour lesson is listed from €109. Ask the school what equipment is provided.
Two options centre on food and local culture: a two-hour fado night with six Algarve tapas dishes at a Portimão restaurant, from €84, and a three-hour guided food tour through the town, from €75.
